Traditional Primary Suite: 2nd Place
Use of Color – Interior: 3rd Place
Color was very important to the homeowner who wanted this to have a historically themed color palate. After many custom samples of historical greens and yellows we were able to come to the feel she was looking for. This color compliments the spaces wonderful views to nature beyond and looks great sunlit through the windows or in the evening under artificial light. This palate was able to be extended into the dressing room area of the home adjacent to the Primary Bathas well. There is a historical elegance to the space that fits well with the character of the home and creates the uniqueness the owner was envisioning.
We were asked to develop a design for these spaces that would fit the character of this 100-year-old home that we had expanded for a different owner several years prior. The space is a connection point between two ends of the home. Maintaining access through it for the owner was important. We designed the primary closet space to be all custom enclosed built-ins with a working island for laying out clothes and accessories. There is a small informal open hanging around the corner for clothes and shoe overflow.
The previous design for the space had great natural light on both sides of the room which we wanted to maintain. Dressers with countertop display areas built-in provided a great complement to the space and serve a very practical use. At the entrance to the primary closet is a custom glass cabinet that displays the homeowner’s impressive purse collection. Color and detail were very important to the owner.
A lot of time was spent getting the final historical green color the way she had envisioned it. The space needed to feel like a historical dressing room with all the amenities of a modern space. In addition to the primary closet we renovated the original closet and bath areas to keep the historical feel of the Master Suite. Custom cabinets and tile patterns were used along with barrel vaulted ceilings, which helped create an intimacy and hierarchy to the traditional spaces. The home is in Bloomfield Hills and was completed in 2022
