Webster Community Center Celebrates Grand Opening in Pontiac, Michigan
CBI Design Professionals is proud to celebrate the grand opening of the Webster Community Center, a transformational project that brings new life to a historic Pontiac landmark. On March 20, 2026, the ribbon cutting marked an exciting milestone for this long-awaited community investment and a new chapter for a space designed to serve Pontiac for generations to come. The project was completed in partnership with Micah 6 Community and the City of Pontiac.
Originally known as Webster Elementary School, the building carries deep historical significance within the city. CBI Design Professionals was honored to play a role in helping preserve and revitalize this important structure, blending historic character with modern functionality. As an architecture firm in Bloomfield Hills with a strong passion for preservation work, projects like this reflect the heart of what we do: creating spaces that honor the past while supporting the future.
The Webster Community Center project was far more than a renovation. It was a major adaptive reuse and restoration effort designed to transform a deteriorating former school into a vibrant community hub. Earlier in the process, the CBI team (including Hopkins Burns Design Studio) helped place the school on the National Register of Historic Places, underscoring the architectural and cultural importance of the property. The redevelopment was envisioned as a way to restore the exterior, reimagine the interior, and create a welcoming destination for a wide range of community services and gatherings.
Today, the finished center stands ready to support youth athletics, music, dance, education, healthcare, and community events. The project also includes spaces for gatherings, a gym, a commercial kitchen available for rent, and other amenities intended to strengthen neighborhood connection and opportunity. This is exactly the kind of meaningful work that makes the restoration of architecture in Pontiac, MI so impactful — preserving historic spaces while giving them renewed purpose for the people they serve.
Throughout the course of the project, careful attention was given to both preservation and accessibility. Improvements included restoring historic features, reopening pathways to better connect key spaces, and introducing thoughtful updates that support modern use without losing the building’s original character. The result is a community-centered space that respects Webster’s history while making it more functional and inclusive for today.
At CBI Design Professionals, we believe historic preservation is about more than saving old buildings. It is about protecting community identity, celebrating architectural legacy, and creating places that continue to matter. Webster Community Center is a powerful example of how thoughtful design can breathe new life into a historic property and help shape a stronger future for the surrounding neighborhood.
We are honored to have been part of this extraordinary project and to see the Webster Community Center officially open its doors. We extend our congratulations to Micah 6 Community, the City of Pontiac, and everyone who helped bring this vision to life.
